Plan Description
Here's a Story, or two! Yes, this is an interpretation of one of America's most beloved, though fictional, homes in California that endear many fans. The sitcom ran from the late 60s through the early 70s. The plot involves a blended family inhabiting a groovy house full of laughter, mischievous antics, and iconic and unforgettable imagery and quotes. "Pork chops and apple sauce..." and "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" for example. The exterior photo of the front of the home was real, though stage set interiors appeared incongruent with that facade. The set's floating staircase and a Mondrianesque backdrop made the most indelible impression of the house and show. The contemporary architectural theme of the actual house populated many neighborhoods across the country at the time. That specific home implied a more upscale neighborhood and the product of the fictional architect, Mike Brady, who played the father. The combination of relatable characters and their prosperous lifestyle enchanted audiences with such a delightful abode and humorous domestic melodrama. Many Los Angeles homes of the period were built in the "contemporary" theme. The aesthetic eventually became known as mid-century modern architecture. The exterior of this house plan is flipped to capture the iconic staircase design as we recall it. Exteriors resemble the photos of the actual house when flipped back the other way. Either option captures the design aesthetic of the fictional house. Of course, the interiors of this design do not match those of the sets exactly. The design is altered to capture the overall scheme but deliver a realistic and affordable home you can build. You may wish to update your decor over the design elements common to that period shown in the renderings.
