Springing up in American neighborhoods around the same time as Craftsman-influenced
designs, English Cottage house share many features of modest, family-friendly bungalow designs, with a distinctly English look.
Steeply-pitched roofs, sometimes with flared eaves (inspired by the thatched roofs of traditional English cottages that were designed to shed rain and snow), top irregular plans filled with cozy nooks and crannies. English Cottage designs may display half-timbered gable ends and muntin windows, much like their grander cousin, the
home (also inspired by English building traditions).
