Outdoor Project Plans #HWBDO11131
Little House in the Garden
0 Sq. Ft.
This ingenious plan changes the idea of a boring rectangular pool and yard, and turns it into something spectacular. By situating the pool along the diagonals of the property, the designer creates an exciting view that juxtaposes the angles of the hardscape with the curvaceous planting areas, effectively making the property appear larger and visually interesting.
The steps leading into the pool are placed on the outside of the rectangle to alleviate some of the straight lines, while still maintaining the angular theme. This is reinforced by the lines of the wooden deck surrounding the pool. At the far end of the pool, hedges not only complete the angular design, they also screen the pool's filter and heater. The line of the hedge is strengthened by two flowering trees positioned at each end; these also terminate the sight line along the pool's length.
Three planters play important roles in the overall design, serving as bursts of color that break up the deck. One brings color poolside; a second links the pool deck with the upper deck off the house; and a third wraps around the upper deck and defines the seating area. Deck boards change direction from one level to the next to solidify and distinguish the separate areas. The deck closest to the home offers a great place for outdoor cooking, dining, and entertaining. The lower deck beckons sun, swimming, and summertime fun. (Rounded grass areas set off the angular pool and deck for an eye-pleasing look and a perfect summer retreat.)
