The layout of this L-shaped home presents several landscaping challenges. The landscape design must provide cars with easy access to the two-car garage and enough turnaround space so they needn't back out of the driveway. The home's three front entrances need to be distinguished one from another, and plantings should counter the elongated look of the house. ~~Though the driveway is large and comes close to the house, the inlaid cobblestones transform what could otherwise resemble a parking lot into an entry court that escorts visitors to the main entrance. A curving line of ornamental trees bordering the driveway leads the eye directly to the door, blocks headlights from glaring into the windows, screens the view into the front rooms and camouflages the private entrance that leads from the master suite to the covered porch and private garden. A low picket fence keeps this lovely garden even more private. Though, of necessity, the driveway is up close to the house, the view from the inside looking out is of beautiful flowering trees rather than asphalt. ~~A wide landing of bluestone paving further highlights the main entrance. Once on the landing, visitors notice that the paving also leads to the service entrance beside the garage, which was hidden from direct view by a latticework trellis.
