Plan details

The romance of the English countryside comes alive in this setting created for an Elizabethan Tudor home. The designer chooses rough stones for walls and walkways, reminiscent of the historical English landscape where stones and cobbles pave many roads and walks. The sixteen-inch-high retaining wall creates an outdoor vestibule where flowering shrubs, perennials and a groundcover chosen for its dramatic color and texture delight the eye. The wall is circular to unify the many different angles and lines of the house and parallels the curved planting line of the trees surrounding the home. Repetition of curves throughout the design helps the entire landscape to flow easily to both sides. The five formally shaped trees around the perimeter loosely define the boundaries of the design while separating the home from the road. Four clumped trees provide contrasting shape and texture. The designer places an ornamental flowering tree before the large window at the front of the house to provide privacy from the front walk. When in bloom, this showy tree becomes a focal point and creates a stunning view through the nearby window. Designed for a corner lot, this plan provides access to the garage from the side street. Visitors parking in front are greeted by a walk with a broad entrance. To adapt this plan for a lot without a corner, swing the driveway toward the front and link the walk to it with a sweeping curve. Adapt the trees and shrubs to border the driveway. Also shown here is home plan HPB356 by Home Planners. Beautiful trees, shrubs, perennials, and groundcovers in this landscape provide an ever-changing show of soft colors and textures throughout the year. @season:Shown in Spring Michael J. Opisso
