The split-level design of this deck is the perfect complement to the
split-level house plan and even enhances its dramatic style. With a square
footage of over 1,100, it allows two activities to go on simultaneously in
almost complete privacy because the deck areas are that separate and distinct.
The main deck level can be reached by twin sliding doors from the family room
or from an additional set of sliding doors in the breakfast room. The spacious,
rectangular shape of this level provides ample room for activities. A table and
chairs fit nicely into a corner directly across from the breakfast room
entrance. Nearby, a stairway leads to the ground. An extensive L-shaped
built-in bench provides lots of seating. A low dividing screen repeats the
L-shape of the bench to separate the two deck areas.
A railed stairway with seven steps takes you to the second deck, which can
also be reached from the teenage activities room. Here the kids can enjoy
get-togethers, homework or plain-old relaxing without bothering the neighboring
deck upstairs. In some house plans, this deck area could serve a lower-level
bedroom wing. Built-in planters and a pair of benches help make this deck cozy.
Access to ground level is simple with two exits, one near the stairway to the
main deck; the second heading toward a side yard. Though it is adaptable to any
size or style of house, this deck was created to complement Home Planners
Design HWEPL05789.
