Airy Entrance Court
0 Sq. Ft.
The problem facing the landscape designer of this one-story home is to create
intimacy and friendliness where a three-car garage near the front entrance
necessitates a lot of pavement. The designer turns what could have been a
barren driveway into a functional and attractive space by using trees and the
sides of the L-shaped house as the walls of an airy entrance court. Cobble
inlay marks the main garage and entrance to the home, and at the same time
provides an interesting change in texture. The second garage is blocked from
immediate view from both sides by a peninsular bed, which clearly separates it
from the primary garage.
~~Enclosing a more intimate courtyard, a low picket fence and bluestone walk
define the front door while bringing an informal, homey feeling to the setting.
Small grassed areas within this doorstep garden, and in the semicircular area
along the rest of the house, provide a green carpet that carries the perimeter
lawn into the interior court. The small tree before the window of the master
bedroom creates a pretty, ever-changing view through the window and blocks
headlights from shining inside.
~~Graceful trees, masses of cheerful flowering perennials, and the flowing
lines of the circular planting beds work together to create a friendly setting
for this country home. It's simply pretty as a picture! Also shown here is home
